Six Steps to Set up Your SSL Certificate
Below, we provide you with a guide that contains all necessary steps to get you started.
1. Purchase SSL Certificate of your choice
- See Domain Validation SSL Certificates, if you are looking for the simplest and cheapest SSL certificate
- See Wildcard SSL Certificates, if you are looking to secure multiple subdomains within one upper level domain with one cert
- See Organization Validation SSL Certificate, if you need high level of assurance. You will need to supply your organization documents.
- See Extended Validation SSL Certificate, if you are seeking highest security and assurance levels. You will need to supply your organization documents and 3rd party legal opinion letter.
2. Get Dedicated IP Address
Please contact your hosting provider in order to obtain a Dedicated IP Address.
3. Request CSR Code
Please contact your hosting provider in order to obtain a CSR code, which is necessary for activation of your SSL Certificate. See detailed instructions here.
You will need to provide the following details to get a CSR:
- Host for which the Certificate will be issued*
- Country (2 letter abbreviation)
- State
- City
- Company Name
- Company Division
- Password
4. Activate Your Certificate
- Login to your CheapSSls.com account here
- Go to My SSL Certificates menu
- Click on “Activate Now” link next to certificate that you want to use
- Follow the outlined steps
5. Approve Issuance of Certificate
Shortly after you finish activation process you will receive an approval email message. This message will contain a confirmation link. Once the link is clicked, the issuance process is finished and your Certificate will be sent to your administrative email address.

6. Contact Your Hosting Provider to Install Your Certificate
Once your certificate is issued, get back to your hosting provider and request the installation of the certificate on your server.
Five steps to secure your Facebook App or Fan Page
1. Head to the Facebook Developer App
2. Select the Facebook App that you setup for your Facebook Fan Page
3. Click on Edit Settings
4. Update the Secure Canvas URL and the Secure Page Tab URL with the new Secure address
Canvas URL and Secure Canvas URL refer to the location on your server where you are storing your application files (e.g., https://yoursite.com/fanpage/)
Page Tab URL and Secure Page Tab URL refer to the location on your server where you are storing your index file (e.g., https://yoursite.com/fanpage/index.html)
5. Click Save Changes
